Q: As a keen sports person, what sort of diet would help me maintain my weight, whilst keeping the energy levels?

A: Firstly you need to maintain a balance between carbohydrate, fat and protein. I would suggest the following balance during the day:

· Carbohydrate - 60 - 70%

· Fat - 15%

· Protein - 15%

For a sample diet

Breakfast: Muesli, Pure orange juice, Milk and tea

Lunch: Granary bread, Honey or cottage cheese

Tea: Pasta or baked potato, Vegetables, Fish or chicken (no skin)

Snacks: Fruit and bagels

Notes:

No: Crisps, Solid fats, Cakes, Biscuits, Cheese (except cottage cheese), Chips, Fried food, Cigs

Limit: Alcohol, Pastries, White bread, Full fat milk, Sweets
