Q: What excersises should I be doing to build up the quadricep muscle in my right leg which has been made largely redundant by my long spell of physical inactivity caused by the mystery ailment in my right knee (now thought to be reactive arthritis) and as a result is no quite weak? Please take into account my poor financial status i.e no expensive gym work, and tailor your answer to accommodate this severe lack of cash with some cheap, yet effective excersises!

A: This is typical problem following injury to the knee....This recovery process can be done at home. Firstly you only have to exercise the last 15 degrees of the knee lift (the last movement before straighten). This is because you need to isolate the quadriceps muscle close to the patella. Secondly with the good knee find the optimum amount of these limited leg extensions you can accomplish. (Sit on the edge of the bed with a pillow around you ankle). Maybe 100+ for the good leg. Then swap to the damage leg and go again. This should be done every day. When the two numbers match...you are there.
