Where do we start about the successful Huncote tour to Benidorm in Spain. The guys and girls from Huncote were looking forward to a week in the sun so let us begin at the start. Firstly the coach to take the club to Luton Airport never turned up, and it was left to Geoff Farmer to frantically ring round for a replacement. Luckily enough he managed to get one and the team was on their way.
The flight was fairly standard and soon the players and family soon arrived at their luxury accommodation!! A pool, nice rooms and good surroundings all left the Huncote players surprised by the good quality. That night, like most others, all parties went out drinking, and with a day off the next day all was looking good. Then from nowhere fitness fanatic Dave Kirby started to try to form his own running team up the mountains. During the week he managed to collar, Ian, PK, Somner, Brewin, and even Brian!!
The first game was between the Huncote old boys against a local team of "experienced" players. Huncote batted first and the highlight was a magical fifty from Man of the Match, and rolling back the years, Alan Somner. It was a timed game and was played in good spirits for a draw. Drinking continued heavily into the week as the young Smith's led the way with many a trip to Benidorm town centre, with the younger members happy just to visit the local pubs.
It was on one night that trouble seemed to break out. Little Al Somner, following a night out, was let loose with some shaving cream, and although none of this is confirmed, here is a report of what happened. Al sprayed the foam into Simon Howe's room and all over his door and was promptly caught by hotel security and reprimanded. The whole party was warned that any further outbreaks and we would all have to leave!!!!
The next game resulted in a Huncote defeat, but Tim Kirby did manage to bowl the Spanish captain, apparently, and PK dropped their vice from behind the stumps. Still the beer flowed so who cared? The final Sunday of the tour resulted in a Huncote win, with the whole team chipping in contributions. All in all some good results for the Huncote players leading into the new season. TK produced some good batting and Somner bowled well. The old pros JW, DK, Wayne, Geoff, Crossley, Speno, Brian and the rest all performed well over the week.
IT was a uneventful trip home but everyone seemed too tired to worry. If you have a story to tell about the tour, do not hesitate to send them in via the feedback button. We want to hear exactly what did happen!!
