Huncote CC V Great Glenn - Huncote lose by 2 wickets.
After no game due to rain the week before Huncote were back in action with a home tie against Great Glen. Huncote lost the toss and were put into bat on a good looking wicket, shame it didn't play that way for us. Silk and Frank opened and looked in good form reaching 20 before Ian got the first shooter of the day and was trapped LBW, the annoyance was plain to see on his face and things were already looking bad. Frank though was showing some good form and had moved onto 14 when new partner Minnie edged a buffet ball to the keeper. 36 for 2 soon became 45 for 3 when Sheldon was bowled , things weren't going to plan and the skipper Carl had now joined Frank at the crease. Another 9 runs were added before Frank played his first lose shot of the day and was caught at backward point, a good knock of 22 but the team could have done with a few more.
Next in was Dewsy and things were looking good with him and Carl finding the boundary with relative ease, a partnership of 40 was going strong until Spenny missed a straight one and was bowled for 14. The score now at 94 for 5, Craig Webb came to the crease and hit a good 4 before also being adjudged as leg before wicket for 4. TK only lasted 4 balls being bowled around his legs by a slower delivery and Dewsy soon followed trying the big hit only to miss and get bowled for 34. Rossy looked in good form hitting a quick fire 10 before being bowled by a long hop which didn't get higher then two inches of off the ground. DK also periled away for a duck and left Knibbsy stranded on two and the Huncote innings all over for 126 runs in 43.1 overs.
Tea was taken and some encouraging words given by the captain saw Huncote take the field, Dewsy and TK opened again and the boys hoped for some better luck. 5 overs passed before on the 2nd ball of Tim's 3rd over he bowled their number two, ironically also around his legs removing leg stump in the process. Three overs later and Huncote were at it again this time Dewsy found the edge and a superb one handed diving catch to his right at second slip saw Minnie getting all the congratulations. 30 for 2 and maybe Huncote were in with a chance especially when the very next over TK struck again this time another catch by Minnie but in the covers. The score still on 30 and Huncote were pumped up.
The fourth wicket partnership was a good one for Great Glen adding 55 to the total but it was finally broken in the 21st over when Knibbsy rattled the number five's stumps. 10 runs and 5 overs later and Spenny got his wicket for the game when their number 4 tried a big shot only to hit it high and straight to the waiting Knibbsy at mid on. 95 for 4 and things weren't too good for Huncote but a slight hope was still held, the score had moved to 119 when Knibbsy struck again a great catch by Frank behind the stumps saw Huncote up their game again.
Dewsy and TK were back on and maybe just maybe this could be a tense finish. Two overs later and further joy for Huncote as TK claimed his third wicket getting their number 8 caught and bowled, the very next over with the score still 121 Dewsy got his second bowling the batsman. Now the game was heading for a dramatic finish, they needed 6 runs and Huncote needed 2 wickets.
Unfortunately on this occasion it was not to be as Great Glen struggled over the line in the 38th over. A good fighting performance by Huncote who maybe got the worst of the pitch, but their was some encouragement their and a better team spirit all around. One final note Frank and Dewsy sort it out we need you both playing!
