Ivanhoe 4th CC V Huncote II CC (5 Points) - Ivanhoe win by 6 wickets.
For the first time this year TK won the toss and elected to bat on a damp wicket. A couple of players had been drafted in at the last moment due to the first team getting called off but both were regular second team players anyway, with Fraz and Chris Farmer also in the side. The batting line up wasn't as strong as the previous week but TK still felt his team had the ability to set a good target for Ivanhoe to chase. Mitch and Eddie opened the batting, things were looking good with both batsman hitting runs. Then with the score on 20 Mitch hit the ball straight back at the bowler to be caught for 8, Al Sommer went to the middle and scored a quick fire 5 before being caught well at gully. The skipper fresh from his 46 last week came to the middle and in a partnership that lasted 5 overs, 19 runs were put on.
Eddie then tried to pull a full toss and managed a big top edge which was well caught by the man at fine leg, dismissed for 19 and Huncote threatening another collapse. Knibbsy was next appearing for his first innings of the season a partnership of 32 was put on with Knibbsy playing some nice shots, before he tried one too many and was bowled for 23. TK was holding firm but was finding runs hard to come by and with Somner at the other end he was dismissed LBW a few overs later. An innings of 13 from the skip off of 22 overs playing an anchor role for the team, the wicket didn't seem to suit TK and he hopes for more runs next week.
The big hitter PK was in next to try and get the score moving again and in 6 overs 30 runs were added before PK was also bowled. He looked very tired after his innings as Somner had him running lots of quick singles which with the Sommer school of calling is dodgy at the best of times. Geoff joined Somner and by now Somner had learnt how to hit the ball harder and was getting a few runs before he too missed a straight one but a good innings of 21 none the less. The last over saw JW and Geoff put 3 more on to the score to make a respectable total of 142.
The bowling started as of last week with Somner at one end and Knibbsy at the other, it was a slow start by Ivanhoe but in the 8th over with the score on 7 Knibbsy claimed the first wicket bowling the opener for 3. Then came a good batsman who with the other opener got the score going hitting a further 22 in 5 overs before the opened pulled a ball from Somner straight at TK who took a comfortable catch. The next Ivanhoe partnership lasted for 24 overs putting on 86 runs and putting Ivanhoe into a winning position. Needing 4 an over with 7 wickets left to number 5 didn't put up much resistance being run out by Somner for 0. The number 6 though was a little more effective but apart from a drop early on by Somner easily steered Ivanhoe to victory leaving the number 3 70 not out.
A bad batting performance and fielding has left a lot to be desired, if only Eddie would have caught the number 3 out on a tough caught and bowled early it might have been a different game. We must improve next week and with some key players back that should happen.
