26th MAY
Huncote II CC (25 Points) V Snibston Grange CC - Huncote win by 36 runs.

This was Huncote's second home game of the season and also their second win. After losing the toss once again Huncote were put into bat by Snibston, with Max back in the team, he opened with Eddie. Things were looking good with both openers scoring runs before Max got done by a slower ball and hit the ball straight at short extra cover, only 18 for Max this week. This was the start of mini collapse as next Eddie was bowled for 13 then both Al and Mitch hit convincing 4's before both being bowled.

Tim and Stan were now at the crease and with the score on 44 for 4 things weren't looking good for Huncote, and Snibston were looking confident of their first win of the season. Only 12 overs had passed and in the next 6 overs only 2 runs were added to the total. The 19th over saw a change of fortune with Stan pulling a nice four before nipping a quick single, you could feel the confidence of the two batsman rise and the fielders were slowly moving further out. In the next 12 overs 55 runs were added and things were looking good with Tim looking in fine form at one end and Stan not encountering much danger. Then a dubious LBW decision was given against Stan and the Snibston boys once again looked a little more confident, they were now hoping that they had reached the tail of the Huncote side. Somner joined Tim and moved the score on a further 13 runs to 114 before hitting one straight up in the air and a good catch taken removing Carl for only 1 run.

The other Kirby brother came to the crease and two cut fours later, Tim had reached his second half century of his career, PK was also looking in good nick hitting maybe the shot of the day a four flicked off his legs. He too though threw away his wicket being bowled for a stylish 15 runs. Geoff came in and also hit a useful 11 taking the total past 175 before falling again to the straight one onto the stumps. Craig Webb made his first appearance of the season but didn't have time to score a run as the innings came to the end of its allotted overs, leaving TK on 76 not out.

Tea was taken and the Huncote boys were ready to go out and try to bowl out Snibston, Somner came down the hill and JW started up the hill. One of the Snibston openers looked in fine form hitting runs freely off of JW, he was replaced after bowling only 4 overs by TK although his bad ribs were the reason. The opener continued to score freely until when on 41 he was bowled by TK. With only 13 overs gone Snibston were 44 for 1 and looking good, TK was soon replaced by Eddie. Somner meanwhile was bowling very tightly and in his 7th over claimed his only wicket of the match bowling the other opener. Eddie then got to work and in his first 4 overs claimed 3 wickets for 14 runs, 2 caught by Max and the injured PK, and to other clean bowled. Snibston were now 76 for 5 off of 24 overs. 7 overs later and Eddie had claimed his 5 wicket haul getting a neat stumping by Mitch, and an LBW decision, the Huncote boys were looking confident.

The ninth wicket partnership was a good one for Snibston seeing them through to the last over, going into it on 140 for 7 they were confident of a losing draw with PK dropping a close in catch a couple of overs from the end. Somner was bowling up the hill and TK was on again down the hill looking for these 3 elusive wickets needed to win the game. It was TK to bowl the final over and with people all around the bat he charged in and the first ball was too short and pulled away for 2 runs to Snibston. TK now even more pumped up charged in again and got a bit of lift off the track the batsman edged one and Mitch took a spectacular diving catch high to his right behind the stumps. More fielders cluttered around the bat for the next ball, it was a full one which caught the bat and PK took a good catch diving forward at short leg.

The first team back from their game were on the sidelines and were cheering, one more wicket needed three more balls to get it with. With TK on a hat trick he once again charged in and bowled a full straight one, the batsman got his bat to it but it wasn't enough contact and the ball made its way to the stumps taking the bails off. Huncote had won their second match of the season and everyone was cheering and celebrating. A good all-round performance and one which needs to be continued next week, mention must go to Somner who bowled a magnificent 14 overs only going for 25 runs keeping things tight and the pressure on the batsman, and Eddie for his 5 wicket haul.
