Huncote CC V Westonians CC - Huncote get a draw.
This week the first team were at home and after the last few bad results some changes were brought about for this game. Tim Kirby after his recent impressive display in the seconds was called up, Max Swords was also called up from the seconds and Jamie and Knibbsy kept their places. Spenny won the toss for the home side and elected to bowl first, Dewsy opened up the hill and TK opened down the hill into a strong head wind. The first 12 overs past with the score on 21 for 2 Dewsy getting both the wickets one caught by Max at gully and the other caught at first slip by the skipper. The opening pair kept it very tight and the Huncote boys were confident of restricting Westonians to a gettable total. Minnie Driver replaced TK and Dewsy continued his impressive spell, by now the Westonians number 4 was well in his stride and was enjoying sending Minnie to the boundary gathering some momentum for the visitors.
Dewsy was replaced by TK after a fine 10 over burst but TK struggled with the hill and was sent for 20 runs in his short 3 over spell. Ross Spencer was given a go by the skipper down the hill but the Westonians kept adding to their increasingly impressive total. Knibbsy was now bowling up the hill and had managed to contain the scoring by bowling a slightly shorter length, the skipper bought himself on and with his first ball the opener was dismissed. These two bowled in tandem till the end taking a further 3 wickets between them with Spenny getting three one stumped and one bowled and Knibbsy got his man caught by TK in the covers. Some bad drops and a dodgy umpiring decision as well as some poor fielding contributed to a total of 183 for 6.
Huncote opened with Jamie and Crossley but the score hadn't moved on much when Jamie who looked scared at the pace of the bowler was bowled for 5. Frank came to the middle to join Ian and possibly the two best batsman in the club looked in no danger at all until Crossley edged one behind off of the slower bowler. Out for 22 and the innings was in danger of yet another collapse. What happened next was entertaining to say the least, Frank when trying to flick a short ball down the leg side caught it thin and the keeper had a regulation catch. Frank was already walking not realising that the keeper had dropped it still walking away the keeper ran up to the stumps and took the bails off leaving Franks good sportsmanship looking slightly unfair departing for 9 runs.
Max and Ross were now at the crease, Max was finding it difficult to get the ball away but Ross looked in fine form cutting any short ball to the boundary for four. It wasn't long at Max too was scoring but one pull too many left him top edging one to mid wicket for 8. Dewsy was next in and he too looked in fine form as he and Ross got the scoring really going and gave Huncote some hope that they could get close to their target. Dewsy played some fine shots in his short innings of 24 before getting bowled.
TK was next on the back of his 76 last week he was given the instructions to keep the momentum going. His first task was to make Ross run a quick two to get him to his 50. A fine innings which looked to give Huncote a very slim chance of winning or at least getting close. TK also hit a four off of his legs but it wasn't long before Ross hit one up in the air and was caught for a fine 57, Spenny came to the middle and he and TK took the score to 153 for 6 gaining one extra draw point. In the end slightly disappointing but at least we didn't lose.
