30th JUNE
Walton le Wolds V Huncote CC - Huncote win by 5 wickets.

Huncote turned up at Walton confident that this week they could win their first game of the season. Both teams are languishing too near the foot of the table, for their own good and here something had to happen. There were some changes from the previous game as opening bowler and middle order batsman Dewsy was out and in came Somner, and PK gained a late shout along with first team débutante Chris Farmer. Huncote lost the toss and were put into bowl against a team with players still turning up after the start of the game.

TK opened down the hill and Knibbsy was to come up the hill, an early breakthrough was essential for the boys. This didn't take long as the fourth ball of the game TK bowled the middle stump of their opener to make the score 0 for 1. The next few overs were steady by TK but Knibbsy was put to the sword going for 20 in his first 3 overs. Minnie Driver took over from him and the score rate was slowing. Minnie then struck bowling their number 3 who had looked in all sorts of trouble all through his innings. TK was rested after 8 good overs and Knibbsy was given the chance to make up for his earlier overs and it didn't take long. A slightly short ball was seized upon by their left handed number four but he only managed to hammer the ball straight to the waiting Ross Spencer who took a sharp catch. Minnie struck again soon after another bowled and soon after Knibbsy was in the act again taking his second wicket.

Minnie was taken off after 10 overs and Twiggy was given his chance to shine, he took that chance with both hands with some good bowling claiming his first wicket in his first over caught by Frank. Ross Spencer had a go down the hill unsuccessfully and was soon replaced by his old man and skipper Carl (incidentally the oldest man on the park for this game) Spencer. Twiggy was at it again bowling their batsman who had got all their runs, he was out for 85 and Huncote were hoping to keep the total as low as possible. Spenny also took a wicket bowled and Somner once again struck for his fourth victim.

TK was bought back on and bowled a tight maiden then in the 40th over of the match Somner took his fourth and Huncote's 10th to bowl Walton out for 153. A fine tea was taken and Huncote had 50 overs to reach their total of 154. The usual suspects opened and Huncote got off to a great start with both Frank and Silk finding the boundary with relative ease, things continued in this way and Huncote were looking good. Ian bought up his 50 and Frank was still their backing him up. With the score on 92 Huncote lost their first wicket, Ian tried one too many big shots and was held by long off, dismissed for a fine 54.

Webby, having to leave early came in at 3 and hit a fine four before being dismissed LBW for 6. Ross came to the crease and almost immediately hit his first of many boundaries, Frank was then trapped LBW for a fine 37 and Huncote needed to steady the ship. Minnie was sent in to do this and with fielders crowding round his bat he struggled to get the ball away. Ross however was finding it all too easy hitting a big six and a few more fours.

Each over a further fielder would crowd Minnie before when on 8 the pressure became too much for the old timer and he was caught and bowled. By this time it was looking very good, news had arrived from the seconds that they had won convincingly and Huncote only needed 19 to win. Ross then kept his batting going and hit a few more fours then a single to leave Huncote needing just 4 for victory. PK was on strike for his first ball and clubbed it through the covers for 4 and victory with 18 overs to spare. The pitch was invaded the stumps disappeared no wait that was only when Pakistan win.

Anyway a brilliant weekends results and we must carry this form into next week and climb up the table.
