Shock Win for "The Crane" Jon Shipley! - February
17th 2006
Oh
what a night, mid February back in 2006, what a Shipley, what a night!
Jon "The Crane" Shipley recorded a shock win, in a scintillating
performance, beating all that stood before him! With a bye in the
first round, and a 2-0 win when Mick "The Chairman" Wooley had to
pull out injured, meant The Crane advanced to the quarter finals
unchallenged. From there he produced an array of darts never seen
before on the Huncote stage.
Former two time finalist Pete "The Pink Lady" Kirby was
dispatched with relative ease, before former County favourite "The
Crusader" Chris Barnes was ousted with a superb double 11 finish, as
The Crane found himself in the final. There he mean "The
Mechanic" Rob Hughes, who had shocked a few beating another favourite
Ian "The Silk" Crossley in the semi final.
It was another cracking night at the home of Sport, Huncote Sports and
Social club, and last years win "Big" Carl Spencer was one of the
early casualties. A good showing though from "Elvis" JW
Smith, Max "The Kingfisher" Swords and in the plate "The
Monkey" Jason Scrimshire showed glimpses of form.
Other early loses where felt some of the other big contenders, Dave
"The Killer" Kirby, "Georgous" George Crossley, and Tim
"The Moleman" Kirby.
All in all a great night and a big thanks to all those who helped on the
night, those who competed and those who just came along to add your support!

"Big" Carl Spencer came back strong to win the plate, with
defeat on the Monkey in the final. Big picked up a four back of beer,
which proved some consolation for the defeat in the main draw.
