Huncote Darts Masters 2008

Pete "The Pink Lady" Kirby Triumphs Over Ian "The Silk" Crossley in Exciting Final - February 22nd 2008

The 7th Huncote Darts Masters saw a new era in Huncote darts!  A senior tournament was coupled with a junior competition and a Blind Draw Mixed Pairs.

Peter "The Pink Lady" Kirby came out as the big winner in a final against the pre-tournament favourite Ian "The Silk" Crossley 3-0.  There was controversy though as the scoring was brought in to question as 20 points seemed to be taken from The Lady's score in the final leg.  Jason "The Monkeyman" Scrimshire voiced his concerns about the scorer.  "I had some concerns about the scorer" Scrimshire was quoted as saying.

Despite Scrimshire's complaints the final finished 3-0 with some big scores from both players in a cracking final.  Earlier Ian Crossley defeated Tim "The Moleman" Kirby in the semi finals whilst the Pink Lady had beaten "Dazzling" Daz Cooper in the other semi final.

The early upset came in the form of Geoff "The Sprinkler" Farmer seeing off Jason "The Monkeyman" Scrimshire 2-1 in the second round.  The Sprinkler made it to the quarters but lost 2-0 to the eventual winner Kirby, with checkouts of 111 and 107 sealing the victory for the Lady.  John "Elvis" Smith was a first round casualty for the Lady, who also saw off David "The Professor" Kirby is a thrilling second round match.  Both players missing doubles for 140+ checkouts.

Early money had been on Paul "Sixty Sid" Lenton but he fell victim to a 2-1 reverse to "Dazzling" Daz Cooper in the second round.  Dazzling then went on to beat 2005 winner "Big" Carl Spencer in the quarter finals to continue his good form, following a win against Steve "The Coach" Peach in the first round.  "Big" Carl Spencer had seen off Brian "The Magpie" Driver in the second round, who in turn had beaten Carole "Baptastic" Stratford in the first round.

Kev "K-Dog" Wood lost 2-1 to Tim "The Moleman" Kirby in a quality quarter final, after K-Dog had beaten George "The Whippet" Njoroge 2-0 in the second round.  The Whippet had beaten Katherine "Arable" Farmer 2-0 in the first round.  The Moleman's route to the quarters had seen victories over John "Bullseye" Beeching and Vickie "The Musician" Njoroge both 2-0.

Ian "The Silk" Crossley recorded victories over "The Crusader" Chris Barnes, "Bouncing" Ben Crossley, and 2002 winner Max "The Kingfisher" Swords in the quarter finals.  The Kingfisher had beaten "Gorgeous" George Crossley 2-0 in the second round, after Gorgeous had beaten Trina "Dis" Spencer in the first round.

Paul "Sixty" Sid and Kev "K-Dog" Wood won the first ever blind draw pairs contest 2-0 in the final.  They beat George "The Whippet" Njoroge and Vickie "The Musician" Njoroge in a thrilling contest.

A 501 tournament played in a sudden death best of 1 format led to an exciting tournament with thrills and spills a plenty.

Tim "The Moleman" Kirby and Trina "Dis" Spencer made it to the semi finals as did "Big" Carl Spencer and Carole "Baptastic" Stratford.

The prize of a crate of Boddingtons was not well received as neither winner like it.  Great.
