Great Glen 1st V Huncote 1st 5/3/2003 - Huncote Won by 9 Wickets On a cold, wet day the Huncote boys travelled to Great Glen for what looks to be a promising season. Silk won the
toss and decided to bowl first on a wet green track. TK and Knibbsy opened the bowling and things were slow going, eventually bad back and all Knibbsy got the Great Glen opener brilliantly stumped by fun time Frankie. A few big shots later and TK had the number 3 caught behind, the other opener continued his good form with some nice flicks through the leg side and a couple of straight drives before TK ran him out when the Great Glen captain turned down a single and left his partner stranded. The score at this point was 92-3 and things weren’t looking great for Huncote, what proceeded saw 2 brilliant catches and some less then average batting. PK took a high catch that some said was as good as they had seen before Silk took a good diving catch at short leg. Twiggy and Betty continued to cause havoc and ended with 3 and 4 wickets respectively to skittle Great Glen for 130.
Tea was taken (see tea ratings on website) and Huncote opened with Silk and Frankie. Silk continued his great form as both opening bowlers were smashed for 4 off their first balls, this trend continued with Silk reaching a quick fire 50 with the team total only on 59 including 2 wides. Frankie was looking steady if not a little slow and when he was finally given out LBW dubiously some shouts were that he had been given out boring. Pete Lill went in to join the skipper and was soon in his stride hitting the ball down towards the long boundary and running lots and lots of 3’s. The target was getting closer and closer and the result never seemed in doubt as Pete hit the winning runs to start some muted celebrations in the artic conditions.
A great start to the season and two good debuts was H and Mark ‘The Cat’ Scrimshire, if we continue with this type of form the league title could be a realistic possibility this year.Man of the Match- Ian Crossley
