Huncote 1st V Great Glen 1st 12/07/03 - Great Glen Win by 5 Wickets

On a hot sunny day Ian won the toss and elected to bat first on a good looking Huncote strip. Ian and Frank opened and after two good recent scores Frank was first to go to a dubious LBW decision, not to be the first of the day. Pete Lill recalled from the seconds joined Ian and these two got things going at a good rate, the runs were flowing and 200 looked a realistic score with the depth of batting available. Ian was the next to go though when a ball got big on him and he managed to glove it onto his own stumps for 33.

This bought Ross to the crease who set about adding quick runs smashing one big 6 over long off, by now the score board was looking healthy and maybe 225 was an option. Any thoughts of a big score though were quickly disbanded as Ross, Haroon, Brian and Carl all went in quick succession. Tim joined Pete at the crease with plenty of overs left and needing to ensure a competitive total was added. During this partnership a strange piece of cricket occurred, Tim was on strike and hit the ball hard and flat straight back at Pete who didnt manage to get out of the way and took a nasty blow to the arm.

After a short break he was back up and running and showed this with a big 6 over the leg side. Pete was eventually bowled for 65 with a few overs left, Mark joined Tim and the pair added a few more quick runs including 2 off Mark's head. Mark was next to go soon followed by Tim leaving Knibbs and Wayne at the crease with 3 balls to spare. Unfortunately no more runs were added and the innings closed on 170-9.

Tea was taken and Huncote took the field still quite confident that a win was possible despite a below par score. Wayne and Paul opened the bowling and it looked to be one of those days for Wayne who never seemed to settle into a proper rhythm. It was Paul who struck the early blows having both openers caught behind by Frank, one from a top edge the other a regulation nick. Wayne had their number 3 dropped in the gully region and a few other shots were in the air but managed to miss the fielders. Tim replaced Wayne for a miserable 5 overs and Carl replaced Knibbs, and it was Carl who struck next removing the left handed number 3 to a great catch. Pete Lill at first slip bad left arm and all from earlier dived full stretch and plucked the ball from a low position left handed.

Betty then struck in his first over trapping Sutton LBW, Sutton though was not impressed by the decision and proceeded to whine and throw his bat from the field. Carl then picked up the Great Glen captain Hincks well caught by Tim Kirby running in from the long off boundary, unfortunately the damage was already done. Even the reintroduction of Wayne could not stop Great Glen coasting to victory by 5 wickets with about 6 or 7 overs to spare. A poor performance by Huncote in all aspects and one that needs to be improved on and quickly to get back on track.

MOM Pete Lill for a well constructed 65 with some big shots to boot.
