Huncote Spearheads V Gumley Gearboxes 24/08/03 - Huncote win by 4 Wickets

A great run chase by the Spearheads, took this well fought out encounter away from the Gearboxes. Gearbox captain, Cotton, elected to bat on a fair day and a big hundred from a slightly fortunate S Mosic, helped the visitors amase a big score of 200-6. Tea was taken with the game well in the balance. For the Spearheads, Ben Crossley and James Swann opened well, Smith and Brewin kept it tight, but Sommer, Ian Crossley and the two Kirby's received a bit of tap.

Huncote always have a quality batting lineup and this again proved the case. A first wicket partnership of 70 set up the run chase, with Pete Kirby scoring 32 off 45 balls and Ian Crossley hitting his well crafted 41 off 59 balls. Tim Kirby and Frazer Hubbard both added usefull contributions, and Sommer ran excellently, but the big hitting of Mitch Hubbard and Brewin at different stages won the game. Mitch Hubbard's middle order 29 came off only 26 balls, but Brewin went even further scoring a smash and grab 32 off only 20 deliveries, including a huge six to win the game with an over to spare. Brewin's useful contributions with bat and ball earning him MOM. A good perforamce for the Spearheads, A Pickering perhaps the pick of the Gearbox bowlers.
