Fleckney Falcons V Huncote Spearheads 01/08/04 - Huncote Win By 23 Runs

A fine 73 from opener Ian Crossley set the tempo for this Spearhead win. James Brewin got the visitors off to a brisk start after Kirby had won the toss and elected to bat. A couple of clever slower balls from Hammond though resulted in Brewin dragging on, and Schutz skying to mid off.

David Kirby and Carl Sommer steadied the ship, allowing Crossley to continue on his merry way, passing his fifty in style. The Falcons bowling was tightening up and accounted for Crossley for 73 and Sommer for 9. Brassington and Kear the bowlers.

The Kirby brothers added some important runs late on before Kear removed both in quick succession to leave the Spearheads approaching 200. The two Crossley's and the two Horstcrafts saw off the final few overs as the score reached 197-9. Good work from 8 year old Sam Horstcraft surviving 14 balls on debut!!

After the early wickets of Kisby, Brassington and Webster, the Falcons were never in it. Dunkley batted well but it was Carl Sommer who bowled well to remove him too. Kear hung around, well supported by Brown, but Crossley removed the young left handed and the Spearheads cruised home.

Brewin bowled some poor overs at the death, but it made us laugh, and it was up to David Kirby to finish off the home side. Bowling the last over the senior Kirby had the impressive Hammond caught in the deep by Carl Sommer to win the game, and pick up his first ever wicket!!
