15/05/04 - Huncote 2nds V Great Glen 2nds

Great Glen 107 all out, Huncote 108-2 - Huncote win by 8 wickets.  View Scorecard

Great Glen batted first after Statford won the toss for the home side. Huncote's strong bowling attack was spearheaded by JW Smith and son Adey. Although bowling economically and never letting the left/right hand opening Great Glen batsmen settle the breakthrough never came. Next on to bowl was Skipper Eddie Stratford and vice James Swann, and with this change in the bowling attack came the first wicket to fall.

James Swann - 4 wickets

The right handed batsmen fell bowled by a yorker from Swann. The bowlers continued to plug away but alas no more wickets fell. With the run rate still not accelerating greatly the second bowling change came about Ben Crossley for Swann, Spencer for Stratford. Ben struck with his second ball, bowling the dangerous looking no.3 off his pads for 25. With this further wickets fell Spencer grabbing two including the left handed opener for a hard worked 24. JW grabbed another in his second spell, as did Adey.  When Swann replaced the hobbling Adey, Great Glen where tottering on 106-7.

Swann then proceeded to get two wickets with the first two balls of his second spell bowling both of his victims. The hat-trick ball came to nothing but the innings was wrapped up when Swanny got his fourth victim the third in his over after a great diving catch caught by Farmer at short extra cover, the second catch of the game for him. Great

Glen all out for 107.  Tea was taken for the first time in the new clubhouse, as ever a great tea with improved melons on show compared to last week.

With a total to chase Huncote's focus turned to batting and with a strong opening partnership of Spencer and Lill looked to get off to a great start.  Lill hit an early four but was dismissed in the third over for 6. This brought Sir Alan Sommer to the crease and along with Spencer who was starting to get his eye in steadied the ship. With memories of the partnership from the previous Sunday (130) The partners in crime where looking to finish the run chase early, with persistent running of 3s and hitting of 4s and a huge 6 from Spencer onto the new clubhouse roof a big partnership had formed and it looked like these two would see the innings out for a comfortable 9 wicket win.

But Spencer fell in the 16th over playing onto his pads before the ball trickled onto his stumps, bowled for 43. This brought McEntee into the crease and after a couple of singles he steered Huncote home with a beautiful straight drive for four with his new bat. Liam finishing 5* Sommer 42*. Huncote winning the game by 8 wickets in the 18th over. A good day for Huncote in the field and with the bat.

MOM: James Swann - 7-2-12-4 - Polished of the tail with some accomplished bowling.
