01/05/04 - Hathern Old 2nds V Huncote 2nds

Huncote 91 all out, Hathen 92-3 - Hathen win by 7 wickets.  View Scorecard

With no electricity or running water at the ground a petrol generator had to be used to light the only lamp in the away changing rooms, which meant the home side got changed in the bar.  Stand in skipper James Swann lost the toss and Huncote were put into bat on a damp wicket. Credit to the grounds men who got the game going when other games where called off.

McEntee - A Solid Start

The season got off to a bad start losing openers Frazer off the first ball of the game and Jamie for ducks. Sir Alan and Ross Spencer steadied the ship Ross getting bowled however for 16. This brought debutant Liam McEntee to the crease with the home side wobbling on not very many for 3 wickets. Liam and Alan put on a good partnership both scoring 24 before Sir Sommer was caught at point. This brought Swann to the crease armed with his new bat and he shared partnerships with Craig Webb (0), Ross Matthews (6) and Geoff Farmer (12no) before departing for 15 caught at extra cover.

Ben Crossley and JW Smith both departed for 0 leaving Huncote 91 all out with five ducks in their order! A good tea was taken and then Huncote took to the field looking to dismiss Hathern for less than 91 obviously.

The opening bowling partnership of JW Smith and James Swann bowled well and got 3 wickets between them Swann getting 2. Spencer, Crossley and McEntee also bowled. But Hathern never looked in much trouble and backed up their good, tight bowling display with sensible batting to see themselves home with 7 wickets remaining.

MOM Liam McEntee - A sensible and well worked 24 on a hard wicket to bat onhis full debut. Bowled OK as well.
