Huncote 1st V Swallows Green 1st 01/06/04 - Huncote Win by 7 Wickets
After
a few spots of overnight rain Hinckley captain J Healey won the toss and elected
to bat. The pitch was lively with the new ball and it didn't take long for
Huncote to be in the wickets. Kirby grabbed the first as Hubbard took a simple
catch before Smith had Meats caught at short leg by Crossley. Kirby then grabbed
2 wickets in an over as first he bowled Max then had Ashton caught by Hubbard
for 0. 18 for 4 after 14 overs was not the start Hinckley were looking for and
it was only 10 runs later that Smith struck again as Ley was caught behind by
Hubbard for his third catch of the game. A small resurgence then started for
Hinckley as Beasley and Law looked to consolidate but couldn't get the scoring
rate up after 30 overs with the score on 54 for 5 Hinckley needed to up the
rate.
Knibbs now on for Kirby profited by this change in approach as he had Beasley
caught by Schutz at slip. Kirby came back for Smith and struck in his second
over back reducing Hinckley to 62 for 7. Leeson offered some shots but after
Sommer trapped Law LBW and Leeson was bowled by Kirby Huncote were well on top.
96 for 9 and only a 4 by Snowden off Sommer took the score to 3 figures before
Sommer got Snowden caught by Brewin off a brilliant slower ball. 100 all out and
surely this week Huncote wouldn't throw away another run chase.
After tea Hubbard and Crossley took the field and had to cope with the same
early conditions that Huncote had profited from with the new ball. A few edges
were induced but nothing stuck as the two openers continued their good form. For
21 overs Hubbard and Crossley added runs at 3 per over and looked like they
could carry the team home without any other batsman needed. Then in the 22nd
over Law who had replaced Healey struck twice in 3 balls, first Hubbard was
bowled for 26 before P Kirby was caught off his glove down the leg side for 0.
Schutz joined Crossley and after a shaky start started to find the boundary
with ease, Snowden returned for one final throw of the dice and despite Crossley
playing on for 37 Huncote cantered home with 16 overs to spare. Schutz finishing
28 not out and Driver 0 not out. Back to winning ways and the convincing home
form continued.
MOM with three 5 wicket hauls in 4 games for Kirby he took this one with 5
for 27.
