Huncote 1st V Leicester Taveners 1st 03/07/04 - Huncote Win By 4 Wickets
Another match, another win for Huncote, but this was by no means easy.
With rain a plenty the few days before the match the pitch was very sodden and
played very low. Powdrill, the visitors captain won the toss, and selected
to bat, hoping to get runs on the board and pressure Huncote on an indifferent
wicket. The low bounce was there to be seen in the first over as Aucott
was bowled by a Tim Kirby length ball.
Wickets continued to tumble after the skipper and John's stiff resistance was
ended. Peck was the only batsmen to get going and Sommer and Knibbs picked
up one each as Tim Kirby ripped through the order from the other end. Soon
Driver ended the innings having Kev Dyke caught by Sommer in the deep. Tim
Kirby again the main destroyer, picking up 7-41 in an excellent spell of
bowling.
Hubbard and Crossley offered a solid base to the innings, with Frank Hubbard
looking to anchor the innings. Crossley was first to go, trapped LBW by
Kev Day off one that stayed low again. Schutz fired some nice shots before
Jones undid him, and Spencer and Kirby offered nothing to the score.
Spencer bowled by a good Jones in swinger, Pete Kirby trapped almost identically
to Crossley to one that stayed very low. Haroon Khawaja on his return to
the team only added 4 before he was bowled by Luke Dyke.
Dyke bowled well in his second spell, and also picked up the wicket of Brewin
for 4. Tim Kirby entered the fray, and followed up his excellent bowling
with the winning runs. He helped Frank Hubbard over the winning
line. Hubbard was superb throughout his marathon innings, adding his 21
runs off exactly 100 balls. Another Huncote win, which they had to earn,
and another great Tim Kirby performance.
