Huncote 2nd V Wigston Town 2nd 07/08/04 - Huncote Win by 5 Wickets

Huncote were asked to field first in the sweltering heat wave that hit the Spearing and Waite bowl at the weekend. Opening bowlers JW Smith and Swann bowled tightly and the breakthrough came in the second over Swann dismissing Swinger for 4. The next breakthrough however was a long time coming. New batsmen Hyde started well and accelerated to his fifty with a number of good fours and a six. Fellow batsmen P Dunkley struggled to score but held up an end well and added good support to Hyde. Dunkley however perished soon after to the bowling of Farmer, getting bowled for 27 after swinging across the line.

Crossley bowled tightly in between the wickets of Dunkley and then Hyde. Hyde departing for a very good 80 thanks to a brilliant low catch by Crossley off the bowling of Spencer. The return of Smith into the bowling attack saw P and T Ashton head back to the pavilion scoring 7 and 1 respectively. S Cox added a quick 36 before getting ran out by a good throw from McEntee leaving Bradshaw not out 6. The Wigston score finishing on 174-5.

A new opening partnership for Huncote of P Kirby and C Spencer took to the field and soon started to accelerate the score with a number of boundaries, Kirby despite getting dropped on 4 reaching his fifty with a six. A good knock and hopefully the start of some better luck! Spencer who was for once getting out scored also reached his fifty and helped to set out what looked to be a comfortable win for Huncote.

Kirby was the first to be dismissed caught by P Ashton low down off his own bowling. Kirby a good 69. Spencer hung a round for a while, but the next wicket to fall was that of Sommer ran out for 7 after a good piece of fielding. Spencer also departed for 73 caught by B Ashton again off the bowling of P Aston and some nerves were starting to jingle in the Huncote camp as they were making hard work of getting the last few runs needed for victory. Smith and Swann departed in quick succession leaving Huncote needing 5 off the last two overs with Hubbard and ,McEntee at the crease. Hubbard steered the team home however with a four through midwicket to set up a much need victory. Huncote winning by 5 wickets. P Ashton the pick of the bowlers finishing with figures of 6-1-16-3.
