Huncote Spearheads V British Gas CC 19/06/2005 - Huncote Lose By 4 Wickets
View
from the visitors:-
On a hot sunny day (32c), the mighty GasHeads took a new look side to the
village of Huncote.
With a depleted side, missing Leroy, Daryl and Phil through injury, and Jesus,
Micky, Buck and Neil to the Cavaliers (who incidentally got whooped!!!!), Shorty
to Isham, Scrote who was working, and Ollie who was unavailable, however,
several guests turned out and fitted nicely into the gasheads way of playing the
game.
The Skipper and ex-gas head Brian Driver tossed up, and we won the toss. The
skipper surprisingly (to his team mates) elected to field first, and threw the
new ball to temporary opening bowler Walsh, who bowled a beautiful line and
length to justify the skippers decision. The first change bowler was Dave Watts,
(who was playing in place of workmate Judas Hayward), who bowled some cracking
deliveries at his boss Brian Driver (anyone remember him??) and had him in all
sorts of trouble. Next into the attack was spinner John Patching. John bowled a
beautiful line and length, with plenty of flight and deception. Despite the hot
conditions, Patch bowled his 8 over spell in one hit, taking two well deserved
wickets along the way. Young Alex Jones bowled five overs (in two stints) and
bowled some very good deliveries at a lively pace troubling some of the
batsmen.
Another youngster, Shane Thompson also bowled well, hitting a nice line and
length from the beginning. Veteran leg spinner was the last bowler to be used,
and he bowled his usual variations of spin, taking an exceptional caught and
bowled to dismiss the Huncote star batsman who was starting to think about
upping the run rate.
Special mention must go to the people behind the line of the stumps, with
wicketkeeper TK and slip fielder PK letting the ball go through their legs on
more than one occasion.
After the good bowling and fielding performance Huncote set the Gas Heads a
target of 163 to win, which looking at the gasheads fragile batting line up,
looked a tricky total.
A lovely tea was consumed, and there was plenty to eat (because the Pie eating
Judas boys were not there mainly!!)
The
Gas Heads sprung a surprise by forming a new opening pairing of PK and the
Skipper. Both batsmen got off the mark, and looking relatively comfy against the
Huncote opening bowlers. PK then drove a six through the covers, and the skipper
pulled a short ball for six over midwicket. The two openers were separated when
the skipper got himself stumped for 20. Richard Burke came in at three and
looked very relaxed, supported PK very well until he fell LBW for 11.In strolled
TK and he cracked the ball all over the place. PK fell next, falling to a trap
getting caught square of the wicket for a valuable 58. Shane Thompson came in
next and went quickly for a duck, so in strolled Dave Watts. Dave batted in a
unique and original style, but contributed a useful 5 runs to the cause before
he also got stumped. In came Alex Jones who batted solidly, supporting TK in a
stand of 53. Alex played solid in defence, and drove through the covers exquisitely
when the opportunity arose. When TK fell stumped for 56, Pidge came to the
crease, and almost got himself out first ball, however he hung on, and scored
the winning run.
All in all, a great afternoons cricket, with some great individual performances
