Croft V Huncote 1st 14/06/2005 - Huncote Win by
49 Runs
Croft Captain Jason Scrimshire, who bears a close resemblance to Dennis
Lillee, won the toss and elected to have a bowl. Huncote opened with the skipper
Pete Kirby and Mark Schutz. The visitors got off to a brisk start with some good
running, and expansive shots, helped also by a few extras gifted by the keeper
and bowlers. With 50 added for the first wicket it took the craft and guile of
the home captain to gain the break through, Kirby well caught at point off
Scrimshire's spin. Soon the whirly leg spinner had another victim as Schutz was
bowled for 38 with the off break delivery.
The two Spencer's built a solid platform until Shenton got one through Carl's
defences to bowl him for 11. Brewin joined Ross Spencer and the two blazed
Huncote to a decent total. The hapless Shenton, who had bowled tightly and a
decent line, felt the full brunt with his and the teams last three deliveries
all sailing off Brewin's big bat for 6 runs a piece. 154-3 an ominous total.
Barlow and Clarke though had other ideas and set off at a rapid pace taking
on the two Smith's, opening for the team from the other side of the hill. Barlow
practically savage when advancing down the wicket. Crossley tried to talk the
other opener out before JW Smith had him caught at point. Wickets continued to
fall as first Wayne Smith and Brian Driver got in on the act. Driver removing
the impressive Barlow for 33. Croft never gave in the chase though as batsmen
came out blazing, but when Carl Spencer found him self on a hat trick the game
was definitely up. Alas that chance passed and some late blows from Murphy and Shenton
saw Croft to a decent 105-7.
A good game played in the correct spirit.
