Huncote Spearheads V Hickley Amateurs
01/05/2005 - Huncote Win By 84 Runs Another win for the Spearheads on a damp wicket
at the Spearing Waite Cricket Bowl, Huncote. The first
home tie of the season, and a home debut for Luke and Kev Dyke. The square
was looking firm and flat on the Saturday but that night, heavy thundery showers
left the pitch soaked. The Huncote locals worked hard to get the pitch
playable and first Eddie Stratford, then Mark Schutz and finally Luke Dyke
performed with the bat against Hinckley Amateurs. Mention too to David
Kirby who hung around and even managed to hit a 6 despite being drafted in late
after injury to Max Swords.
By now the other Spearhead side were back to watch after a disappointing fete
related incident halted play in Northampton and Huncote strode on to a
commanding 177 all out. Rustall the pick of the bowlers, with 8 good overs
resulting in a 5 wicket haul. Tea was excellent and the sun was shining
when Hinckley Amateurs strode out to bat.
Good bowling from James Swann and Luke Dyke,
and some assistance from the
damp low bounce of the pitch, left the Amateurs in trouble at 7-3 off 7
overs. Horsley and Phillips fought back but Scrimshire and the Crossley
twins also took wickets to leave the visitors 84 runs short of their ask.
Solid bowling around again, and Ian Crossley took an excellent catch in the
outfield.
Man of the match to Luke Dyke whose big hitting 50 was followed up by an
impressive display of quick bowling, though Eddie Stratford was a close second.
