Lutterworth Giants V Huncote Spearheads 07/08/2005 - Huncote Win By 3 Wickets

A view from the Giants of Lutterworth:-

The day got off to a good start with Lutterworth winning the toss and electing to have a bat on what looked a good pitch. This part of the day was all in vain though as apart from one partnership between M.Atkinson (22)-(including a huge six into Coventry road from old mother Frazer Hubbard) & J.Sercombe (20), Lutterworth suffered their second collapse in two games and fell to 57 for 6. This week though i think our batsmen felt under too much pressure from the constant whining of motor-mouth welham wanting a higher batting place. It was down to Tony Watson and Lee Atkinson to repair the damage however and they put on 50 together until Atkinson fell for 11. This put Lutterworth on 107 for 7 and in came Welham. After a superb 50 from all rounder Tony Watson, he proved his argument and blasted 28 even though he was dropped 17 times. Tony Watson being the back bone of the innings with support took Lutterworth to a defendable 162 for 8 off 40 overs.

After a fine tea Lutterworth were ready to take the field. Huncote started positively and hit 28 off the first 5 overs. However two wickets from Tony "FREDDIE" Watson - look out PC WILLS!! - meant Huncote were on 52 for 2. Some aggressive batting from Huncote's middle order soared them up to 91 for 2 off 16 overs. Even though motor-mouth welham constantly moaned he was knackered in the field through over working - though we all strongly suspect it had something to do with the entire chicken he ate on the boundary the previous day - this couldn't prevent him bowling a fine 8 over spell taking 1 for 18 and showing great promise. From the other end L.Atkinson took two wickets and had a great direct hit run out and along with Welham's spell this put lutts back in the game as Huncote were 112 for 6. D.Baxter and J.Sercombe bowled tightly but failed to get a breakthrough which meant the visitors slowly crept towards their target. With the introduction of J.Baxter however, he took a wicket in his first over which gave the home side hope, but it wasn't to be as a fine 24 not out from Huncote's skipper saw them home for a 3 wicket win.

View from the Huncote skipper: - Lutterworth can obviously spot a fine batsman when they see one!
