Twycross Zoolanders V Huncote Spearheads 15/05/2005 - Zoolanders Win by 2 Wickets
It
was a wonderfully sunny 15th of May the ground was nice and the smell of the
Curzon Arms drifted around.
The toss was won by TK Kirby who decided on an old Huncote theory to bat first.
00 Swann and Sideshow Ben opened the batting scoring a partnership of 16 before
Sideshow was bowled around his legs. Danny Adders joined the double 0 at the
crease and looked good until a missed timed drive left him caught out on eight.
Rogan then strode to the crease. The two young lads played a steady partnership
with a lovely six from Ish. Ishan was then dismissed on 14.
Webby then tried his bad luck and didn’t trouble the scorers. After that
marked a pair for the weekend people must wonder why he bothers. Webby comment
after the game “people must wonder why I bother”. But the game went on with
the large figure of Leroy entering the crease. But the arrival seemed to scare
00 Swann as he was dismissed for an extremely helpful 35. Monkey boy then
bounded to the crease to join his brother. During their spell together a match
turning point occurred, no Jason didn’t score a 100, Webby decided to
umpire.
There was no real run scoring action before he was back in his hutch. TK then
wondered out there and scored some all important runs helping his youthful team
along before he was dismissed by 1 of 2 amazing yet incorrect Collins LBW shouts
that were quickly given by Webb. He strode off in astonishment. TK must have
been thinking how could that be out? TK asked when he got back to the dressing
room “how could that be out?” Kev Dyke then senior pro-ley trotted to the
crease to join the good batting of Leroy. Kev hit the most important 20 runs of
the day meaning a poor score might just look average. Then once again the LBW
law came into play as Tim Collins appealed Webby fingered him quicker than
bullet.
Frubs then waddled to the open space in the middle of the field. After two
very streaky Drives/Hoiks/Edges (delete as you think appropriate) he found
himself on 10. Leroy was still pushing along well at the other end. Frubs then
swung at one to many and got caught by some one with a fit mum. Big Little Dave
then approached the crease with four balls remaining Hitting a sneaky single to
make him the happiest man on the park. Leroy ended on 14 and had held the
Huncote innings together.
A lovely tea was indulged in and some scrumptious French Fancies were consumed
before we were reinstated back onto the field of play.
Frubs and Dyke opened the bowling with both bowlers being dispatched for 6
before Hubbard got the both openers the first coming caught and bowled the other
caught by Sideshow. Hubbard’s figures could have been a lot worse other than
some great fielding from the sub fielder Soph Dallison. They were both replace
after ten overs when it was looking less than good. Scrimshire replaced Frubs
and Rogan came on for Kev. Scrim having returned to his old action had the
batsman in knots. After drinks the game look to be going one way and every one
presumed only one winner: the game of cricket. Everyone knows what drinks brings
and it did.
Huncote struggling but Sideshow and Swanny replacing the bowlers kept it
tight and some good catches meant that some tight bowling may be good enough.
Some good wicket keeping by TK brought one of the batsmen close to a dismissal
but Webby was fielding instead of umpiring and the umpire said no. The hope for
more chances was gifted with their skipper being dropped three times. But nobody
expected the batsman to be quite as good as Alexander and Aymes who both batted
well to see the game go to Twycross Zoolanders.
A great sunny day enjoyed by all thanks to all for organising it.
