Woodhouse Eaves 1st V Huncote 1st 30/07/2005 - Huncote Win by 8 Wickets
Huncote
produced a solid display to win this top of the table clash. The result sent to
two sides level on points and allows a very interesting end to the season.
Huncote won the toss, and on a pitch notorious for being hard to bowl the
opposition out, elected to bowl.
Wayne Smith picked up the early wicket of Clarke, excellently stumped down
the leg side by Hubbard, but Markley and Lee provided a solid start. Dyke and
Smith kept things tight early on but the two batsmen pressed on both passing
50s. Markley was first to go, James Swann picking up his wicket, well caught at
long on by Peter Kirby. Tim Kirby soon was in the wickets, Collins and Lee both
falling, Lee for a well crafted 64.
Godsi played a few decent shots as Huncote bowled and fielded tightly, Kirby
picking up two more wickets and their were two run outs. Dyke and Smith both
bowled well at the death and the home side finished on 194-8. A decent but
gettable score. Tim Kirby with 4-55.
I
reply Ian Crossley went off like a bull at a gate, as he hit boundary after
boundary. Frank Hubbard merely held up an end, as that was all he needed to do,
as the right-handed opener raced to 50 with only 54 on the board. Oliver and
Mapp felt the brunt of the attack and were both soon out. Hubbard now looked to
get into the runs as both players traded blows. Hubbard though soon fell to
America, and Woodhouse were on the board. Peter Kirby came in to support
Crossley with the run rate well above what was required.
When Crossley fell in similar fashion to Hubbard for a blistering 86 off just
77 balls, Khawaja and Kirby looked to take the visitors to the target. Collins
was bowling with good discipline, and was unlucky not to have Khawaja caught of
a skier. As the runs started to flow off of Kirby's bat the target looked closer
and closer, and in the 36th over Kirby reached his 50 and Huncote were within 8.
Khawaja and Kirby scampered the last few runs as Oliver returned into the fray,
and a leg glance from the number 4 saw Huncote home.
MOM to the Silky Ian Crossley for a blistering attack that effectively sealed
the game, but credit to the Huncote bowling who kept the scoring very tight.
