Sapcote V Huncote
What a run feast at Sapcote field. Huncote won the toss, and on a sunny day elected to bat. Skipper Ian Crossley was joined by Peter Kirby in a new opening partnership. Things started slow and steady but soon Kirby was trapped plum in front LBW for 4 runs. Carl Spencer came in and moved the score along, but was bowled for 27. Crossley then looked to build a partnership with Danny Adcock and things looked OK, but with the score on 73 things started to go wrong. Crossley was the first to go, but was soon followed by Matty Adcock, Mitch Hubbard, Danny Adcock and Brian Driver as wickets tumbled. 77-7 now the score and the tide had well and truly turned. Craig Webb, recalled to the 1st team, looked to steady the ship and with Tim Kirby down the other end things looked a little better. The score moved into the 90s before Kirby was bowled by the spinner who took his 5th wicket. Webby continued to occupy the crease and was joined by Dave Kirby who made a spirited 3 runs. Knibbs was last in and cracked a couple of fours, but was bowled for 9. Webby remained not out 11 and the score was set at 107. A terrible tea, which was frankly a disgrace, only seemed to fire up the Huncote players and they went to the field with a quite confidence, whereas the cretins of Sapcote were loud and over confident. Knibbs and Kirby once again opened the bowling and looked pretty good early on, Knibbs striking in his first over, getting the skipper caught by Matty Adcock in the gully. The pressure was being built and Webby was on fire in the outfield taking two magic catches from Kirby's bowling. Crossley followed suit as Knibbs struck again. The pressure was never ending as the Huncote lads went for the throat. Knibbs bowled the middle order and Brian Driver replaced Tim and bowled a tidy spell. Things looked bad for Sapcote who were 50-7 and looking to shut up shop. Knibbs bowled another lad, and Tim Kirby was back in the action. Knibbs now bowling gun barrel straight looked to be closing in on the tail and with 6 wickets already he was fired up. Another straight ball, LBW the number ten was Knibbsy's 7th victim!! Kirby wrapped it up with a great catch from Crossley close in and Huncote celebrated an epic win, Sapcote the brave 64 all out, 25 points for Huncote. MOM: Knibbs 7-28 takes the plaudits but great efforts from from Webby, and Crossley, runs and catches. |
