Huncote
CC V Great Glen CC An
extremely disappointing defeat this week, at the hands of Great Glen this
week. A hugely important toss
was lost this week by Ian Crossley who was inserted on a green wet pitch
that was very bowler friendly. Huncote
managed only to notch up 85 runs all out with only Crossley himself
offering up any resistance with 34. Huncote
took to the field before tea and Tim Kirby started well, seaming the ball
all over the shop and Glen were 3 down for only 2 runs on the board.
An unlikely win was on the cards for Huncote until the rain came
down and tea was taken early. Unfortunately
this rain made the pitch dead and lifeless and some good batting from
there on in took the visitors home with 87-5, Kirby with 3 wickets, Knibbs
with the other two. |

Huncote
CC V Northampton Cavaliers CC A
grudge match this Sunday with both sides fielding strong line ups.
For the Cavaliers, Leroy was back, along side Hamlet, Oliver, and
Lill, this looked a strong team. With
Driver, Kitchener, Pace, Tony and Rocket Ron, the team from Northants
looked formidable. Up
against them though was a steely, determined looking Huncote team.
With both Adie and Waine Smith in the team, joining the usual
bunch, Huncote were in confident mood.
A hastily prepared pitch look a little green and brown, so
opposition skipper Driver inserted Pete Kirby’s team into bat.
Crossley and Jamie Smith as usual opened, but Jamie appeared to be in a
hurry and the slog shot was plain for all to see.
The now worried Brian Driver, who was “keeping” wicket for the
Cavs, deployed a cow corner for the young pinch hitter.
The scoring rate was looking good until some magical fielding from
the Rocket resulted in Crossley being run out for 31.
Jamie Smith soon followed caught close in for a solid 30.
A couple of quick wickets fell, with Tim Kirby caught behind and
Mitch Hubbard clean bowled. A
steadying partnership was needed and came from Al Sommer and Adie Smith,
Al making 13 before he was bowled. Adie
carried on, hitting some big shots along the way.
Brewin, Pete Kirby, Waine Smith, and John W Smith all provided a
cameo for the big hitting Adie as the score went to 203 for 9 off the 40
overs. Adie finishing not out
60 with 3 big sixes. The only disappointment was a duck for the greatest batsman
in the world Carl Sommer, who must have just been unlucky. Tea
was once again great from Ruth and Huncote took to the field in confident
mood. The confidence
increased when Driver emerged as the opener for the opposition, and Waine
looked fired up. Both W.
Smith and J.W Smith bowled extremely well at the start, Waine going for 5
runs off his 6 overs, and JW taking the prize wicket of Kitchener.
Pete Kirby and Carl Sommer came on to bowl to get the score going
but Tony was run out, and Leroy stumped off Pete Kirby. Lill
and Driver forged a good partnership, blasting Kirby out the attack, so
Crossley was called on to tidy things up.
This he did and things looked good.
Lill was caught and bowled by the Silk man, Adie came on and
cleaned up Hamlet, Brewin followed suit with the wicket of Oliver.
Driver had already run out another team member before he was bowled
for 39 by Brewin. The
innings was tidied up by a run out from Carl Sommer, and a catch in the
outfield by Mitch Hubbard, and the Cavaliers were bowled out for 120 ish.
A good game played in an excellent spirit with a cracking tea to
match. MoM: Adie Smith, 60 not out and a wicket for the youngest of the Smith clan. |
