Huncote CC Results 2002 - 27/28 July 2002

First Team

Whetstone V Huncote - Winning draw.

Finally, Huncote first team show they can hold a bat and utilise it to score some runs.  The team are put into bat and total a massive 247 - 8 off their allotted 47 overs.  Crossley carries his bat throughout with a big 109 not out, with a well timed stroke through mid wicket his main weapon in a brilliant arsenal.  This week support comes from Ross Spencer with 34, including 3 sixes, Tim Kirby with 19, including one 6, Matty Adcock with 21, including a six, and Mitch Hubbard with 18, but alas no sixes for the DJ.

Whetstone tried their best to reach the total but could never quite get there despite two spirited half centuries, one in double quick time.  Tim Kirby bowls a lot of tidy overs finishing with 5 for 60 off 18, Knibbs and Driver share the other two wickets, as Whetstone finish 170 odd for 7.  Final mention to Matty Adcock for those racy red lacies, really got Knibbsy going this week.

MOM : Crossley - he was a little tired after his 3 hour mammoth effort!!

Second Team

Huncote V Sharnford

Brilliant batting from Alan Sommer and James Brewin, who both hit half centuries and the seconds cruise to 220 runs, declaring after 40 overs.  Alan top scores with 69, Brewin not far off with 66.  A great effort from the experienced pro and the young big hitter.

Alas in a similar tail to the first team match the wickets did not quite materialise and the visitors finished with 118 - 8, JW Smith, Eddie Stratford, Carl Sommer and Ricky Swann all bowling well.  Winning draw.

MOM : Alan Sommer - rolling back the years.

Sunday Team

Huncote CC V Appleby Magna CC

Another game, another win for the Huncote Sunday team.  Appleby seemed to be taking this one a little bit more seriously then the home side, and were whited up and practising before the Huncote team could be dragged from the bar.  A lovely day and a good looking track meant the choice was easy for the skipper who won the toss.  Pete Kirby managed this and Huncote were batting.

With Crossley fresh from his 109 not out the day before, and Jamie Smith in fine fettle, things looked good.  A solid opening partnership ended when Jamie chipped one up in the air for 5.  Frazer Hubbard added a quick four and out, before Crossley was joined by Al Sommer.  These two put on lots, and Crossley was next out for 48.  Al Sommer made a cracking 30, Carl Sommer, a quick fire 24, Brewin an explosive 14, and the rest chipped in with ones and twos.  Huncote bowled out in the last over for a slightly disappointing 159.

Teas were great, and a stern visiting team sat and ate in near silence, as the Huncote boys reflected on a night on the town, which involved Jamie Smith being sworn at by random women, PK falling asleep in his curry, and Waine Smith and Mitch Hubbard wiping their rear ends on some loser's car.  Top marks again for Ruth, who made the addition of Computer Generated labels for the sarnies, great stuff.

Magna batted well and early wickets went to JW Smith and Swanny, with all bowlers keeping it tight, with a ten man field.  A close finish was looming with Appleby on 140 - 3 with 6 overs remaining.  Waine Smith was brought back and he had the desired effect, bowling the dangerman with a tidy delivery.  Then golden balls himself, Ian Crossley took over, bowling three batsman in one maiden over, and with Waine and then Carl Sommer keeping it tight, 10 runs were needed from the final Crossley over with 3 wickets in hand.  The captain of the visitors was disgusted with his teams efforts and then decided to play an even more hideous shot, chipping high to the 100% hands of James Swann.  Things looked bleak for Appleby.  Crossley then somehow became unplayable and 4 dot balls followed and the game was won.  Just to finish in style Silkster bowled the batsman with last ball of the match to finish with figures of 8 overs, 2 maidens, 5 for 18!!

Unlucky for opposition, who mainly stormed off in a bit of a huff, but they tried their best.  Next week Huncote face old rivals Westfields at the QE college ground, and with a full complement of 11 expected, the team are in high spirits.

MOM : Ian "The Silk" Crossley - is there anything this man can't do?
