Huncote CC Results 2002 - 27/28 July 2002

First Team
Huncote CC V Burbage

On a hot day in Huncote, Crossley elected to bat and with a strong batting card on paper the team were optimistic.  Unfortunately some good bowling and a couple of "strange" umpiring decisions left Huncote with a slightly disappointing 168 all out from their complete overs.  Dave Kirby managing a third golden in a row as he once again sacrificed his wicket in an attempt to benefit the team on the last ball. Crossley himself top scored with 34, Pete Kirby managed 28, and some lusty blows from Webby took him to 23.  Carl Sommer batted well for 18 before attempting one kamikaze run too many, and Frank Hubbard, Ross Spencer and Matty Adcock  all contributed well.

This proved 30 runs too few and the visitors knocked them off for 7 wickets, with Sommer, Matty Adcock and Ross Spencer perhaps the pick of the bowlers.  Tim Kirby struggled hard but the ball never took the edge, TK needs to learn to keep going when things dont go his way on a flat pitch against some good batsman.  The pick of which was the opposition Skipper, John Moore who hit a stylish fifty to take the game away from Huncote.  Still a good fight back at the end meant a reasonable haul of 8 league points for Huncote.

Huncote MOM : Sommer, a good effort with both bat and ball

Second Team
Birstall Village V Huncote

Huncote lose and Jamie Smith has assured me he will send in a match report for this week, don't hold your breath....

Sunday Team
Rutland Ducklings V Huncote

Huncote win by 50 runs.

A 300 mile away trip for Huncote, who for the first time in decades were without the big man Tim Kirby (Tim plays away).  Still a strong looking side were met with some "interesting" facilities, but despite what anyone says the worst thing (and in this writer's opinion unacceptable) was the lack of showers.  Huncote were put in and lost the early wicket of Jamie Smith, a shame as the youngster had been batting well in recent weeks.  Brewin came in at three and blasted the ball around making a good 43 runs.  Crossley found it difficult as the grass was so high his elegant ground strokes went no where.  In fact early in he hit 3 shots that would have been four go for just the two.

Alan Sommer grabed a first baller, Crossley came unstuck for 18, Pete Kirby picked out a fielder who could catch for 1, Adie attempted the aerial root and was caught for 5.  Swanny made 6, Carl Sommer 9,  Frazer 2 and only a cameo from Waine, and JW Smith took the side to 105 all out.  Tea was excellent however and a confident home side suddenly started to worry and the shorted up Waine Smith charged in (a thigh guard is usually a good idea).

Waine managed 3 early wickets and JW removed the danger man with a ball that was reported to swing a little bit!! Carl Sommer got in the act picking up two wickets, as did the somewhat selfish Swanny, even Adie Smith picked up 2 wickets with a combination of spin and line and length.  The only bowler to not take a wicket was the skipper Pete Kirby although one tidy over from him is something of a rarity.  The last wicket fell to the Swanmiest as the home side were skittled out for 50 odd, cue various trips to pubs on the long crawl home.

Mom : James Brewin, some good runs on a tricky pitch and outfield.
