Huncote CC Results 2002 - 11th/12th May 2002

First Team
Huncote V Sapcote

Huncote win by 6 wickets.

The first home game of the season saw Huncote start with 10 men. Silk won the toss and elected to field on what looked a good track. TK opened the bowling down the hill with Somner starting the other end. The Sapcote openers were slow scorers and after a blatant edge by one of their openers off of TK was given not out things weren't looking great for the boys. After about 12 overs Smut the ever reliable supporter showed up and offered to help out and field for the remainder of the innings. What a legend he was awesome in the field stopping everything and helping to a good fielding display by Huncote.

Twiggy got the first breakthrough when he clean bowled one of the openers, with the run rate low things were looking good. The batsman then got a bit of luck scoring lots of runs over the slips and with a short boundary one side an edge bought 4 runs. Betty came on to replace Twiggy and started throwing down some interesting balls, full tosses half volleys but with a bit of luck the number 3 hit one straight to DK who held onto a sharp catch at mid wicket. Then after 20 overs a controversial decision by skipper Crossley, he asked TK to bowl some spin. TK didn't let his skipper down getting 2 wickets in three overs, he was expensive in his fourth and was replaced by Ross. Ross and Betty kept it going and although one batsman was riding his luck with Mitch dropping him a couple of times wickets were falling. Ross got 2 to his name and Betty got one more before being replaced by Twiggy. TK came back on down the hill and wrapped up the innings taking 3 more wickets to complete his first 5 wicket haul for the first team. Sapcote were all out, setting Huncote a target of 176 off of 45 overs.

Then came a master class of batting, Max and Silk opened and the scoring rate was going along well with help from lots of wides. Max was eventually bowled for 17 with the score on 46 and in came Spenny for his first innings of the season. He and Silk then tucked into the bowling smashing the ball to all parts as they raced each other to their half centuries, Silk got their first and Spenny soon followed. After a partnership of exactly 100 Silk tried to wack the ball over the covers only to be well caught, Spenny soon followed and thoughts of Huncote collapses of old came to mind. This was not the case today with Ross smashing a quick fire 17 before getting bowled Betty and PK steered Huncote home to a 6 wicket victory. A great win and a better team performance.

MOM Tim Kirby, 5 wickets and a lot of overs for this lad this week. But with team performances like this every week Huncote could yet be looking at promotion this year.

Second Team
Westonians V Huncote 2nds

Another victory for the 2nds
HUNCOTE 2nds WIN BY 6 WICKETS

Westonians won the toss and elected to bat first on what looked a very flat wicket with a lush outfield on the sun shining J W opened the bowling with James Brewin and provided accurate spells without much success although it did look like Frank stumped their opener but it was not given. James got the breakthrough in the tenth over with Geoff taking a slip catch low to his left. the second wicket fell in his next over when debutant John Beeching took a catch at mid-on.  J.W. then clean bowled the next making Westonians 3 for 54 off 22 overs Eddie
came on to bowl and in his first over the batsman hit the ball high into the air and who was under it non other than Frazier Hubbard what a catch he took throwing the ball high into the air in elation after catching it much to the delight of dad Frank. Wickets fell at regular intervals to Eddie and Stan who took 4 for 4 off 8.3 overs and with Fraz taking another high catch and Frank chipping in with two stumpings. Westonians were finally all out for 103 off 46.3 overs.

Jamie and Frank opened batting sensibley and put on 44 for the first wicket with Jamie being bowled for 15 in the 17th over in came Alan who had problems with his helmet someone said it was from sweat after walking out to the crease anyway the score progressed onto 75 before Alan was out bowled for 3 Dave came and went Eddie then came in with a borrowed bat after breaking his new bat while practising. Frank reached his 50 before being bowled 6 runs short of victory Eddie hit the winning runs off the 36th over.

Sunday Team
Huncote CC V Westfields

The Sunday team won again, this time thanks to some excellent batting from Ian Crossley and good bowling from James Swann and Carl Sommer.  Huncote won the toss and batted, and amassed a big total of 203 for 4 off their 40 overs.  Crossley topped scored with 125 not out, and was supported by Frazer Hubbard (11), Alan Sommer (17), Jamie Smith (11), and Max Swords (15 no).  James Brewin and Tim Kirby departed cheaply this week. Frazer also nailed a big 6 in his score!!

Tea was great again, Ruth producing some great stuff and her melons were looking good.  This sent the team out in a good mood but news that Birmingham had equalised had mixed reactions, Max Swords happy, Pete Kirby a little disappointed.  Sommer and Swann opened the bowling and did great.  In the end Swann got two wickets, Sommer got one.  Pete Kirby took a wicket, as did Frazer, and George Crossley bowled well on debut. Even Jamie Smith got a bowl and even took 2 wickets at one stage on a hat trick!   All in all a good win with Westfields reaching 150 odd for 9 in 40 overs.

MOM : Ian "the Silk" Crossley
