Huncote CC Results 2002 - 25/26 May 2002

First Team
Huncote V Whetstone - Winning Draw for Huncote (11 points)
Hunote 158-3 (I.Crossley 58*, R.Spencer 30*, C.Spencer 26) Whetstone 58-4 (T.Kirby 2-16, C.Sommer 1-18, J.Willey 1-17)

The weather spoiled what could have been a exciting match at the home of Huncote, with rain the only winner this weekend. Still some very good performances from the Huncote players bode well for future matches. Crossley lost the toss and was unsurprisingly asked to bat on a damp wicket. Despite some strong bowling Huncote knuckled down and got off to a good start. Soon Max Swords departed for a solid 6 runs, and Crossley was joined at the crease by Carl Spencer.

Although the two old pros seemed to be plodding along, they knew what they were doing. With a strong, attacking middle order, Huncote battled to a good position with 15 overs from their restricted 42 to go. Then we Spencer departed to a sharp yorker for 26, the Huncote attack started. First Peter Kirby bludgeoned some boundaries, then succumbed for 21 being a slow bugger and getting run out. Then in came the even more exciting Ross Spencer who hit his way to 30 not out. Crossley remained as the lynch pin for the innings and deservedly hit his unbeaten half century. A good score of 158-3.

Then alas it rained again after a good viewing of Liz's melons and the Whetstone innings was reduced to 28 overs. Despite some lively bowling from Jeff Willey, Carl Sommer, and in particular Tim Kirby, the opposition batted out for the draw. Still a good positive performance from Huncote, against a strong side, and next week the team are away to Hathern Old.

MOM : I.Crossley (again) - the human run machine.

Second Team
2nds DRAW WITH SHARNFORD 2nds???

After winning the toss Eddie asked a strong Sharnford side to bat first J W and James Brewin opened the bowling Brew got 2 wickets in his first over the first was a brilliant catch at square leg by Fraz Hubbard the second was bowled J W the chipped in with a wicket leaving Sharnford 7 for 3 they then staged a recovery putting on 50 before the next wicket fell to J W . Rikki Swann had replaced James by now and bowled a tidy spell. We had to wait for the next wicket this came when James Swann came onto bowl replacing his dad and achieving a wicket with his third ball Bowling the batsman he got his second in the next over.Sharnford threw the bat in the last few overs trying to get the 5th batting point but Fraz caught their top scorer on the deep mid wicket boundary off J W. with Sharnford closing on 173 for 7 wickets.

Frank and Jamie open with Frank being bowled playing on for nought Jamie soon followed chasing a wide ball and being caught for 8. Alan and Eddie then dug in against some indifferent bowling a heavy shower then intervened sending the players off, when they returned Huncote's innings had been reduced by 6 overs and the ground conditions were very poor for batting and bowling therefore making Huncote chase for victory unrealistic so Alan and Eddie just batted out the remaining overs scoring runs where possible and finishing at 87 for 2 wickets.
